AVG Free anti-virus software vsn 9 - How to overcome bugs when installing

The latest version of AVG Anti-Virus vsn 9 has been released. However many users are reporting bugs along the lines of "Error code - 0x0010045" and "Error code - 0x0010053."

I have found a two workarounds:

1. Download the whole 74Mb program. It'll delete a previous version of AVG and save your settings.

2. Don't use AVG download manager vsn 9_40 (English) - but go to CNET download site and use AVG download manager vsn 9_39 (All languages - select English during installation)

Microsoft Internet Explorer 8 - full of bugs

IE8 just launched - it's full of bugs. Keep Mozilla
I've just downloaded and tried out Microsoft's new internet browser. Their videos at the USA site microsoft.com are better than their uk site microsoft.co.uk. They give the impression that IE8 is bug free and faster than Mozilla but this is not the case. I keep getting the common "script error" and no matter what fix you try you can't seem to stop them.

The installation progress started very well but then it screwed up translating my settings. There is another bug in loading search engine URLs to the quick search menu - I got an encoding error and the pulldown corrections did not work either. Next I tried manually loading a search engine URL and IE8 asked for the TEST facility. Whoops not good.

I recommend you keep with Mozilla.

Internet Browser Software Compared - IE, Mozilla Firefox, Apple Safari

I find Mozilla's Firfox is the best free Internet Browser software.

IE - Free from Microsoft. It contains bugs: therefore some graphic charts from my stockbroker do not display and cause script errors in Adobe flash player. Pages download quite slowly. Fonts are drawn very fine.

Safari - Free from Apple.com. It is quite user friendly buy has its own way of opening Tabs and Windows. You have to import your IE Favourites into Safari's bookmarks. Then copy them to the Bookmark Toolbar. Fonts are drawn quite thick - easier to read with weak eyesight. Generally more user friendly than IE. You can configure a "Popular" folder to hold your frequently used websites eg newspaper, BBC, stockbroker and open them all at once with one click. It claims to be fast but it was very, very slow on some pages. Also had a bug, it could not open some BBC links.

Firefox - Free from Mozilla.com. The setup is very easy. Very fast webpage downloads. It is bug-free and resolves all my bugs mentioned above. You can configure it with many free downloads on the Mozilla site. I added "Coffee Cup" add-in, which is superior to Safari's "Popular" folder. I have many IE Favourite folders. It imports them automatically. It takes an extra click to ADD a website to your IE Favourites, which is not aproblem as my common ones are in my "Coffee Cup" folder. The things I like best are SPEED and BUG-FREE.
